Morning Starters: Spring 2 - Riotous Rainforest

Thursday

Did You Know?

Raimundo Mendes is elderly man, who lives in harmony with the Amazon rainforest. He collects and sells Brazil nuts, making just enough money to feed his family. However, Raimundo’s way of life, and that of his community, is under threat as large areas of forest are destroyed to make space for cattle. Cattle ranching is the number one culprit of deforestation in virtually every Amazon country, and it accounts for 80% of current deforestation.

How many trees were left standing?

Critical Thinking

“Because I live in the UK, which is so far away from the Amazon rainforest, there isn’t anything I can do to stop its destruction.”
