Bacteria are single-celled microorganisms. They can be found living in every possible habitat on the planet, including soil, underwater, deep in Earth’s crust and even in radioactive waste. Some live in or on other organisms, including humans. Most bacteria are extremely helpful, aiding in digestion and protecting us against infections.
