Did You Know?

An avalanche is a powerful slide of snow, ice, and rocks racing down a mountainside at speeds up to 200 miles per hour. They happen in snowy regions like the Alps or Rockies and can bruise and bury landscapes, animals, and people beneath tons of debris. Climate change is making avalanches more frequent as warming temperatures destabilise snowpacks, creating dangerous conditions for those who occupy mountain regions.
