Clip Description
Rock pools (also known as tide pools) are rocky pools by the sea. They are filled with sea water during high tide, and exist as separate pools at low tide. Many fascinating creatures live in rock pools. Huge waves, strong currents and hungry predators are just a few of the hazards that rock pool animals must endure to survive.
In this fascinating clip, we are shown some of the weird and wondrous creatures that can be found in rock pools along the coastline of the UK. These creatures include limpets, barnacles, chameleon prawns, pipefish, starfish and sea anemones. Why do you think that so many rock pool creatures are good at hiding? Watch the clip to find out.
Quick Whiteboard Challenge
There were some two-eyed pipefish and some two-eyed chameleon prawns in a rock pool. Altogether, there were 20 eyes and 6 long dorsal (back) fins in the rock pool.
How many chameleon prawns were in the rock pool?
