Statistics (pictograms, bar charts & line graphs): 50 Things

2 - The Problem

The Problem

3M decided to find out which of the activities on the National Trust’s 50 things to do before you’re 11¾ list had already been undertaken by children in the class. After collecting the necessary information, each child constructed a bar chart and a pictogram to show the 6 activities that were undertaken the most.

A boy called Benjamin decided to take his work home to show his parents. Unfortunately, he dropped his work in a muddy puddle by the school gate! You’ll notice that some parts of his bar chart and pictogram (shown opposite) are covered with splatters of mud.

Can you help Benjamin fill in the mud-covered pieces of information?

Helping a wild animal is number 43 on the National Trust’s List of 50 Things to do Before You’re 11¾.

Margo said, “It’s not possible to work out the height of the bars that are covered by mud.” Do you agree with Margo? How do you know?
