Measurement (mass & weight): Food Chain
Further Challenges
- In the related clip (below), we see one of the biggest animals in the ocean – the humpback whale. Fully grown humpback whales have a mass of around 30,000 kg. Incredibly, humpback whales feed on one of the smallest animals in the ocean – krill. A single krill has a mass of around 2 g.
How many krill would be equal to the weight of a humpback whale? Discuss how you went about solving the problem with a partner. What was the same? What was different?
