Geometry (angles): Rotating Head

2 - The Problem

The Problem

A short-eared owl landed in a meadow, where 4 prey animals were hiding in the long grass. The exact locations of the prey animals in relation to the short-eared owl can be seen in the picture opposite.

Can you order all of the clue cards (below), so that they describe how far and in which direction the owl rotated its head before catching the mouse?

How many right-angles did the owl’s head turn through?

Did you know?

All owls produce pellets. Pellets are the undigested parts of the food that an owl eats eat such as fur and bones. They are coughed up (regurgitated) through their beaks. They are not droppings!

Visualising the Problem and Getting Started

If the short-eared owl was looking directly at the rabbit and then rotated its head a quater turn clockwise, which animal would it now be looking at?

If the short-eared owl was looking directly at the vole and then rotated its head so that it was looking directly at the mole, how might you describe this movement? Is there more than one answer?
