Column addition: Lesson 3: eagles
Learning Objective
We are learning how to add numbers with up to 3 digits using the formal written method of column addition (with one or more exchanges).
Context: eagles
Clip Description
‘Eagle’ is the name given to many large and powerfully-built birds of prey. Eagles have very large, hooked beaks for ripping flesh from their prey, strong, muscular legs, and powerful talons. They also have superb eyesight. Incredibly, if you had the eyesight of an eagle, you would be able to see an ant crawling on the ground from the roof of a 10-storey building!
In this fascinating clip, a golden eagle called Tilly is fitted with a special camera that enables us to see the world from an eagle’s perspective as it flies high over the mountains of Scotland.
Quick Number Challenge
In the clip we are told that Tilly is fitted with a 360-degree camera. This is a special camera that can film in every direction.
How many different number sentences can you write down where the answer is 360?
