Whiteboard Challenges
1) The African porcupine forages for food at ground level as it can’t climb trees. It has a varied diet that consists of bark, roots, fruits and berries. It will sometimes eat farm crops; consequently, many are killed each year as farmers consider them to be pests.
2) Some people think that porcupines can fire their quills out from their bodies when feeling threatened, but this is simply not true! However, their quills are easily detached once they have become impaled in an animal’s skin. The quills are then hard to remove due to their overlapping scales.
