• Write an invitation, inviting the sardines to come for dinner with you and your friends. Persuade them to come – but don’t let on that it’s because you want to eat them!
• Write a letter to the Chief of Sardines, explaining your brilliant idea about how to get away from all those predators. Swimming in big circles as tightly as possible isn’t working, so explain a new strategy that would save the school!
• Read the poem A Baby Sardine by Spike Milligan. Having discussed its use of figurative language such as metaphor and personification, extend the poem with additional conversational lines.
