Clip Description
The peacock jumping spider lives in Australia. The male of the species sports a multi-coloured iridescent fan on its abdomen that can be raised when there is a female to impress. This circular fan resembles the tail feathers of a peacock. As the name suggests, peacock jumping spiders have the ability to jump really high. When you’re only the size of a grain of rice, this is a good skill to possess to escape danger quickly!
In this fascinating clip, we get to meet one of these jumping spiders as he leaps around his habitat, trying to avoid being eaten by a variety of predators that include a preying mantis and a centipede. However, the main threat to this teeny-tiny spider is not one you might expect. Who do you think this might be? What do you think he will do when he is ambushed by this creature?
