Clip Description
The only bird heavier than the southern cassowary is the ostrich. The cassowary is a powerful, flightless bird capable of inflicting serious injury. With a 10 cm dagger-like claw on each foot, it can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single kick. For this reason, the cassowary is commonly labelled as “the world’s most dangerous bird.”
In this fascinating clip, a cassowary chick is alone in one of Australia’s prehistoric rainforests. It is extremely vulnerable, as there are many dangers lurking in the undergrowth. Snakes, spiders, lizards and birds of prey all pose a grave threat to the chick. Will it reach the safety of its protective father? Watch the clip to find out.
Word Challenge
