When we think of a primate swinging through the rainforest, we are most likely thinking of a gibbon! With their long arms and strong, hook-shaped hands, these acrobats are more often than not living high up in the trees rather than on the ground.
In this remarkable clip, we will see how a gibbon’s body acts as a pendulum, allowing it to sway gracefully through the trees. However, young gibbons must first learn how to use their bodies to become expert swingers. Will they learn through trial and error, or from watching family members and playmates?
