Paragraphs: black mamba
Clip Description
The black mamba is one of the fastest and most poisonous species of snake in the world. Their venom can kill a human in under twenty minutes. A black mamba isn’t black! It is in fact an olive grey colour; it gets its name from the bluey-black colour inside its mouth, which it will display when threatened.
In this fascinating clip, a black mamba called Bugs swims effortlessly across a river before slithering his way up a tree to shed his old skin. In the treetop, the scaly reptile rubs his head against a branch until his old skin splits and he is able to wriggle free. Listen carefully to the narrator. What do we learn that is unusual about the eyes of a snake? Watch the clip to find out.
