Simple sentences: common toad
The Grammar Bit!
Read the four simple sentences. You will have read and written many simple sentences in your time at school so far.
Notice how each simple sentence has the following features:
- It begins with a capital letter and finishes with a punctuation mark such as a full-stop, question mark or exclamation mark.
- It makes complete sense on its own.
- It contains a single main verb (bold).
- It usually contains a subject /doer of the action (underlined).
- It is often quite short because there is only one main clause.

Scintillating Sentences
1)The toad hibernated over winter in an old flower pot!
2) The sleepy toad stumbled across the dangerous road.
3) The females emerge after the males.
4) Toads have broad bodies and warty skin.
Did you know?
Toads can live to be up to 12 years in the wild. Incredibly, some captive toads have survived for 50 years!
