Clip Description
Sea otters are furry marine mammals of the weasel family. Once hunted for their thick fur, there was a time when there were fewer than 2,000 sea otters left on earth. Now, though, there are more than 100,000 of these creatures swimming in the world’s seas.
In this fascinating clip, we see a sociable group of sea otters bobbing on the surface of the sea. When a massive chunk of ice falls from a melting glacier, the adult otters and their pups must find a safe place to shelter. This is because the falling ice has created a gigantic wave that is heading in the otters’ direction. What slippery living thing, neither plant nor animal, will the otters use to help protect themselves from the wave? Watch the clip to find out.
