Clip Description

The wood frog lives further north than any other North American amphibian. It can even be found north of the Arctic Circle. Typically, a wood frog is coloured brown, brown-red or tan in colour, and has a dark band covering its eye. These colours help to camouflage it when it is hopping along the forest floor.

In this fascinating clip, a wood frog is frozen solid like a block of ice. During the long, cold months of winter, its blood stops flowing and its heart stops beating. However, this incredible amphibian is still alive! As spring arrives, and the sun warms the frog’s forest habitat, it starts to defrost. How long do think it will take for this magical frog to thaw? Watch the clip to find out.
