Direct speech (inverted commas): prairie dog
Writing Ideas
- Read the poem Prairie Dog Town by Mary Austin. See if you can write some additional lines for the poem, having used your senses to think what it might be like for a prairie dog living underground in a prairie dog town.
- It’s time to gather your pups and teach them some important life lessons! For example, they must learn how to share food and play safely on the grassy plains. Role play the conversation that you had with your pups and then write it down using your knowledge of inverted commas.
- Your prairie dog town is putting on a big party with food, music, games and lots more besides. The guest of honour will be Billy the burrowing owl. Write an invitition for other prairie dogs living in towns close by.
